Joel Barlow Athletes Earn Conference Honors

EASTON, Conn. – Joel Barlow High’s Logan Fulton was named first team All-Conference in cross country as the South-West Conference announced its all-league teams.

In field hockey, Samantha Macchio, Brittany Lofgren and Anne Dolan were first team choices. Erin Sullivan, Katherine Acocella and Samantha Scava were All-Colonial League choices. Rose Fenwick and Izzy Hermantin were honorable mention choices.

Jeremy Nelle and Jeff Cohen made all-conference honors in boys soccer. In girls soccer, Katherine Lombardi, Jill Marini and Bea Blackwell made all-conference. Tiffany Fernandes, Ella Creighton and Brady Sezon earned All-Colonial honors.

Easton Welcomes Youth Club's Name Change

EASTON, Conn. - Because one-third of the children participating in its sports and community programs live in Easton, the Boys & Girls Club of Redding has changed its name to the Boys & Girls Club of Redding-Easton.

“The number of different programs and the number of participants has increased significantly over the past several years, so that we now have well over 1,000 kids registered each year,” said Greg Frierson, club president.

Fairfield County Teams Roll into Football Semis

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. - Three high school football teams from the southern Fairfield County entered the Connecticut state tournament and three still remain entering Saturday's semifinals. Staples, Norwalk and New Canaan High School refuse to lose and are still here to entertain Fairfield County football fans.

Mid Fairfield Blues Hockey Team Wins Tournament

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – The Mid Fairfield Youth Hockey Association’s Mite Majors team won the Silver Stick tournament last weekend in West Chester, Pa., by going 6-0. The victory qualifies the team for the Silver Stick national tournament in January.

Mid Fairfield won the championship, 6-5, over the New Jersey Colonials in dramatic fashion. After scoring the game-tying goal with four-tenths of a second left in regulation, the Blues won the championship with a shorthanded goal.

Sacred Heart Men Win Conference Opener

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Shane Gibson scored 21 points while Stamford’s Chris Evans and Norwalk’s Evan Kelley also played well for Sacred Heart Thursday in a 68-55 win over Quinnipiac in a Northeast Conference men's basketball game.

Evans scored 11 points and had five rebounds for the Pioneers (5-3 overall, 1-0 Northeast Conference). Kelley scored four points in 28 minutes.

Stack Will Direct Skating at New Stamford Rink

STAMFORD, Conn. — Chelsea Piers Connecticut has named Matt Stack the club’s director of rinks. For the past seven years, Stack worked for BlueStreak Sports Training in Stamford, where he was one of the four original partners and facility general manager.

Prior to BlueStreak, Stack played professional hockey in the United Hockey League for the Adirondack Ice Hawks. He now coaches high school hockey and scouts for the United States Hockey League.

It's Officially Valentine's Day in Boston

STAMFORD, Conn. – With tears in his eyes and joy in his heart, Stamford’s Bobby Valentine was introduced as the new manager of the Boston Red Sox on Thursday evening at Fenway Park.

The 61-year-old Valentine, a former manager with the Mets and Texas Rangers as well as in Japan, was named to replace Terry Francona. Valentine was immediately interested when he learned Francona would not be back but had reservations about pursuing the position.

STAMFORD, Conn. - It has been speculated for some time, but now it is official: Stamford native Bobby Valentine will be the next manager of the Boston Red Sox.
