Isn't it quicker and easier to simply cart fence debris off to the City's Recycling Center?
Oh, maybe they were carting at the time they left the Fire UNATTENDED !
There are too many businesses in Norwalk that use their residential property as an extension of their business practices,
why this is tolerated is completely unclear to me.
It's tough to blow the whistle on a neighbor, the feud-like repercussions can be more intolerable than the infraction. View Comment

Okay, my bad. I drove past there this morning, for some reason I always thought that Van Buren Avenue was the first leg of Maple St. I apologize.
Looking at the damage today and comparing it to the photos that Nancy posted,...I cannot imagine how this ever happened. View Comment

How did it happen? Just barrell down Stevens St. and don't turn your wheel. Looking down at the moment? Turn around to see if the toddler is okay?
Mom knows.

Westfair Fish & Chips in Westport is the best little hole in the wall you will ever find ! Perhaps you'd like to try Jimmies of Savin Rock or the Clam Shack in New London. For me Jimmies is tops in CT. Being equidistant I also go to City Island but I guess you are confined to the state.

Commented on Back-to-Back I-95 Crashes Hurt 5 in Norwalk

In a four hour span in one morning, 3 out of four or four out of five accidents( but it is 4 not 3 ).
" in one way or another involved trucks ". That's 75 to 80 %. I don't care who hit who or who was speeding to make up time. What bottleneck at 2 am?? If it's a notorious speedway, then the State Police need to change that.
Like I said ' nuff said '.
have a grand day, try not to speed and allow enough time to arrive at your destination safely, because you'd have to drive 60 mph for an hour to ' make up time' of five minutes. I don't think you can drive for more than 2 hours on I-95 in Connecticut. You're not making up time you're rear-ending other vehicles,..and we all know nobody is doing less than 60-65, so how fast are people driving in a torrent of rain to collide with the vehicle in front of them so hard they have to be extricated from their car??. I'd hazard a guess of at least a 30mph impact, so are drivers doing 85-90 in the pouring rain?,..;yeah do the math. View Comment

within a 1-mile stretch of the northbound lanes of the freeway, between the Yankee Doodle Bridge and the Westport border
a car was pinned facing the wrong way between a tractor-trailer and the center guardrail
Another car hit the back of the tractor-trailer and wound up in the breakdown lane
Sometime later, an SUV rear-ended a dump truck
In the next crash, a car spun out into the center barrier on the Yankee Doodle Bridge and was hit by two other cars
While the highway was closed and cars were being diverted at Exit 16. A driver rammed the back of nother car, knocking it into the back of a tractor-trailer as cars were merging to get off the freeway.
Anybody doing the math? I don't think it's the 'stretch of road'.
4 of the 5 accidents in one way or another invilved trucks.
Police did not release the names of any of the victims.
To young to post names? Victims? Really?

Commented on Norwalk Voices: The Mosque on Fillow Street
04/12/12
The city could add a turning lane at intersections, maybe 100 to 150 feet long to reduce congestion at stop signs. Why not add an entrance lane for the Mosque, much like we have to get into the many mini-malls on U.S.! in that same area.
I'm sure the Churches and Synagogue along with the Mosque could stagger times of worship by 10 minutes before or after the hour to reduce the bulk of congested created by all faiths trying to get to their place of worship ' on-the-hour'.
The house that sits on your own property might seem quaint to you, never the less, it's a main though-fair for many a traveler going to work or shopping out on U.S. 1.
I travel ' the back-way ' to get to the Home Depot, KFC, the post road diner and the Norwalk Veterinarian. So I'm only one of what must be hundreds a day that do the very same thing.
North Taylor, Scribner and Richards Avenue all feed into Fillow, it's truly not that tranquil a setting.

I'd like to point out that no matter what the circumstance,.. the Pedestrian ALWAYS has the right of way.
A good friend of the firefighters at the Broad River Firehouse and a close neighbor of mine, Woody, was struck and killed on New Canaan Ave. about 7 years ago. A BMW went around the right side of stopped traffic and hit Woody and tossed him into the air, only to be hit again by oncoming traffic on the opposite side of the road. Rte. 123 needs to be made into a 4 lane State Highway, with a brake down lane at the white fog line on both sides of the road. I've NEVER thought of that space as a ' Bike Lane'. It is the brake-down area to the right of the fog line.
It might ruin the imagined quaint ambiance of the area where there were actually still no paved and defined areas between the old bowling alleys and Uncle Joe's. I'm sure countless kids cross Rt. 123 everyday to get to soccer and baseball practice at Ben Whone Field!
Why haven't safety issues been raised before from the parents of these children anyway? Do we never speak up until somebody gets killed?
Install sidewalks at least on one side of the road from the Parkway, south to the entrance to the Rte. 7 connector. Electronically managed crossing lights, should also be installed.
I believe this accident is the third fatality between the Broad River Firehouse and the Armory up near the Merritt Parkway entrances, in the last 20 years,..SENSELESS View Comment

If your property abuts the Merritt Parkway, put up a fence, post a do not trespass sign. This is 38 miles of pathway. Interrupting its flow disrupts you and your neighbors side roads. You bought a home that physically abuts the Highway, what were you expecting.

Commented on No Bones About It: No Littering in Norwalk

Norwalk is a mess. People toss things from their cars and even pedestrians disregard the law. Things that should be put in trash cans go on the sidewalks and roads. There is always something in front of my house to pick up. Littering is as enforceable as distracted while driving, which is another all to often an ignored law.

Commented on Fairfield County Lawmakers Get Failing Green Grade
02/28/12
House leader from Norwalk got a failing mark by the same watchdog group that issues annual green scorecards . House Minority Leader Lawrence Cafero, R-Norwalk, received a failing grade of 60.
Cafero said his while his grade of 60 is unfair based on his overall environmental record, he “will not be intimidated by special interest groups” just to get a higher scorecard rating.
“Moderation is perfect, and if I am rated at 60 percent, I call that balance and common sense,” Cafero said.
Funny because a 60 anywhere else is an EPIC FAIL
Larry came to my door looking for a vote, saying he will do good for the city.
According to the report, however, “Connecticut lawmakers got caught up in the effort to weaken environmental protections that swept the nation in 2011 in an effort to stimulate the economy

@ SharpByCoop " . Pardon me for being so cynical "
I don't think you're being cynical at all. The bridge over by Wendy's on Rte.123 took a few years to complete. A patrol car was there nearly constantly with a police office, supposedly to assist with traffic. In the hot summer months he sat in the A/C of the patrol car reading paper backs. I know it, I saw it. You couldn't call it a break or lunch, as I drove past several times a day at varying times.. View Comment
